Sosiaali- ja terveysministeriö on julkaissut odotetun selvityksen kasvomaskien käytön hyödystä. Selvityksellä pyrittiin selvittämään, voidaanko arjen tilanteissa käytetyillä kasvosuojuksilla estää epidemian leviämistä.
Selvityksen perusteella ei.
– Tieteellistä näyttöä käytölle ei ole, sanoo selvitystä koostanut emeritaprofessori Marjukka Mäkelä.
Selvityksessä todetaan, että tutkimusnäytön perusteella kasvosuojusten käytön vaikutus hengitystieinfektioiden leviämiseen väestössä on vähäinen tai olematon. Selvityksessä todettiin myös, että kasvomaskien mahdollista vaikutusta on vaikeaa erottaa muiden suojatoimien vaikutuksista.
Selvityksen toimeksianto koski sekä kuluttajille tarkoitettuja tehdasvalmisteisia suu-nenäsuojaimia, että itse valmistettuja kasvomaskeja, mutta ei hengityksensuojaimia.
Selvityksessä on kartoitettu kasvomaskien käyttöön liittyvää tieteellistä tutkimusta. Lisäksi siihen on koottu muiden EU-maiden käytäntöjä ja linjauksia kasvomaskien käytöstä.
Selvityksessä todetaan, että väestön kasvosuojusten vaikuttavuudesta viruksen leviämisen ehkäisystä yhteiskunnassa on hyvin vähän tutkimustietoa. Selvityksen tekijöiden mukaan muiden kuin kirurgisten suu-nenäsuojusten vaikuttavuudesta ei ole tehty satunnaistettuja tutkimuksia. — Read on yle.fi/uutiset/3-11375853
