El coronavirus fue reencontrado después de meses en objetos de hoteles u hospitales así como suspendido en el aire, pero hasta un reciente estudio no se había podido demostrar que las partículas virales estaban suficientemente intactas como para replicarse e infectar a la gente.
Un equipo de la Universidad de Nebraska consiguió por primera vez replicar partículas del SARS-CoV-2 extraídas del aire de cuartos de enfermos de covid-19.
Eso refuerza la hipótesis según la cual el virus es transmisible no solo por salivazos, tos y estornudos, sino también por las microscópicas gotitas que las personas expelen cuando hablan o respiran y que son tan leves que quedan suspendidas en el aire durante mucho tiempo si no hay ventilación suficiente.
Los resultados son preliminares y no fueron revisados por el comité de lectura de una revista científica, que deberá confirmar que el método empleado es cualificado. El texto fue publicado el lunes en el sitio web medrxiv.org en el cual la comunidad científica puede comentarlo libremente.
