Cuando se logre crear una vacuna segura y eficaz contra el coronavirus que ha provocado cientos de miles de muertes, contestan algunos.

Y la pregunta que sigue a esto es: ¿quiénes podrán contar con ella?

Si juzgamos por lo que ha mostrado la historia, es probable que esa vacuna -como ha ocurrido con muchos tratamientos para enfermedades mortales en el pasado- se vea envuelta en una maraña de patentes y derechos de propiedad intelectual, y que eventualmente sean las compañías farmacéuticas las que decidan quién puede tener o no acceso a esa vacuna.

Pero en un artículo publicado recientemente en la revista Foregin Affairs , Jennifer Hillman, investigadora del Council on Foreign Relations, un centro de estudios estadounidense con sede en Nueva York, y profesora del Centro de Leyes de la Universidad de Georgetown, Washington, asegura que las patentes no necesariamente obstaculizarán la distribución equitativa de la vacuna.
