AUDI FINNISH PGA Golf Tourin kauden avauskilpailusta muodostui todellinen trilleri, jonka pääosassa olivat Roope Kakko ja Matias Honkala (-17). Kakko oli kaksikosta lopulta etevämpi uusintaan edenneessä kilpailussa. Naisten kilpailussa Niina Liias (-7) tuli pitkältä takamatkalta ja nappasi voiton kotiin.

Kilpailussa nähtiin peräti kaksi hole in onea, kun Roope Kakko täräytti pallonsa ensimmäisellä lyönnillä reikään 17. reiällä, ja naisten kilpailussa toiseksi sijoittunut Noora Komulainen onnistui täydellisesti 8. reiän avauksessaan.
Matias Honkala aloitti sunnuntain kierroksen todellisella tykityksellä pelattuaan ensimmäiset 9 reikää 28 lyönnillä. Takaysillä Honkalan meno hieman rauhoittui, mutta hänellä oli silti turvallisen tuntuinen viiden lyönnin johto 14. reiän jälkeen.
Siinä vaiheessa alkoi kuitenkin Kakon maaginen kiri, kun hän teki ensin birdien, siihen perään upposi bunkkerista eagle ja kaiken kruunasi 17. reiälle syntynyt hole in one. Yhtäkkiä oltiinkin tilanteessa, että viimeiselle reiällä lähdettiin Kakon yhden lyönnin johdosta. Siinä hän teki kuitenkin bogeyn, joten edessä oli uusinta. Uusinnassa pelattiin Hill Siden Hill-kentän 18. reikää, ja ratkaisu syntyi toisella uusintareiällä Kakon birdiellä.
Kierroksen jälkeen Kakko kertasi kolmen reiän spurttiaan, jossa tuntui onnistuvan kaikki.
”15. reiän birdie oli helvetin tärkeä, kun siihen mennessä mikään ei ollut mennyt omaan suuntaan. Seuraavalla löin hyvän bunkkerilyönnin, joka meni sisään. Sitten olinkin enää kahden lyönnin päässä. 17:llä Matias alkoi varmasti jo miettiä, että tuo vanha näätä tulee tuolta takaa jo aika lähelle. Löin avauksen lipun vasemmalle puolelle, ja se sattui menemään sisään”, voitostaan 2650 euroa kuitannut Kakko sanoi.
